Chelsea fear that Jose Mourinho could hinder contract talks between the club and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, according to the Telegraph.

According to the report, Chelsea chiefs fear that Mourinho’s approach towards the midfielder and youth players could decide whether they’re able to tie down the promising youngster on a long-term deal.

The England U21s international’s contract has just 18 months remaining, with a host of clubs such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and German giants, Bayern Munich, all thought to be monitoring the situation.

Chelsea are currently trying to convince Loftus-Cheek to pen a new five-year deal, but his lack of playing time could sway his decision.

Loftus-Cheek is thought very highly of at Stamford Bridge and Roman Abramovich is keen to see the youngster develop in the first-team.

The 19-year-old has struggled to get regular game-time and Mourinho has recently said that he needs to stake a worthy claim.

Mourinho is determined to keep the midfielder in January, and the board are aware of how Mourinho is trying to develop the player but, ultimately, want the situation resolved.
