Chelsea’s Diego Costa could be on his way back to Atletico Madrid this January, according to Spanish news outlet Fichajes.
The striker is reportedly unhappy at Stamford Bridge and is tempted by the possibility of a return to his former club.
Costa’s recent run of five goals in his last five games has prompted interest from Atletico boss Diego Simeone, who has allegedly asked the club to re-sign the 27-year-old.
Along with city rivals Real Madrid, Atletico have been handed a transfer embargo for the next two transfer windows in summer 2016, and January 2017 after breaching regulations regarding the transferring and registration of players under the age of 18.
And this embargo could speed up any potential deal for Costa, who has endured a purple patch in front of goal in recent games since Jose Mourinho’s departure.
However, given the lack of fire-power Chelsea have at their disposal up front, and with Loic Remy looking likely to move away from the Bridge, one would imagine Guus Hiddink will definitely not want to let Costa go.
The Chelsea boss has been dealt a blow, however, with the news that the Spaniard is a doubt for this weekend’s crunch match with Arsenal.
