Guus Hiddink believes Chelsea do not have enough time to prepare for their upcoming meeting with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
According to the Daily Mail, Hiddink says that the Blues should have been allowed to play on Friday, to allow enough days for the players to rest and recover, for Tuesday.
Hiddink admits he does understands why Chelsea have to play on Tuesday:
I’m strongly in favour, when you have to play on Tuesday, then we should play on Friday. I know there are commercial reasons not to do so, but sports have to be on top of that.
The Premier League champions got in the mood with an emphatic 5-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday night, but will now focus their minds on their game in Paris.
Chelsea face the Ligue 1 champions on Tuesday night, a repeat of last year’s clash.
Hiddink went on to say:
The European game, especially against PSG, will be much more difficult, because it’s a team unbeaten since August, but this game gave confidence to the team. We have to go there and play with the confidence we showed today.
If there is any solace for Chelsea’s interim manager, PSG also played on Saturday night. Albeit they kicked off an hour and a half before against Lille. The French side rested a number of their top players in a goalless draw.
