Southampton’s Spanish midfielder, Oriol Romeu admits he is ready to come up against his former side on Saturday.

Romeu is likely to feature in the Saints’ midfield with Victor Wanyama suspended, the midfielder joined Ronald Koeman’s side from Chelsea in the summer.

The Spaniard admits he won’t treat the game any differently, despite coming up against his former side.

According to London24, Romeu told the Daily Echo:

I have the same mentality as I had before. Just to train well, to train hard and be ready for the chances that I have, with Victor out I’m going to be doing the same. If I have more chances now, I will try to take all over them and play good for everyone. But, as I said, I will take it in the same way as I have the other games. That’s football, but once you get your chance you have to make sure you do it right and make sure.

After joining from Barcelona, there was high hopes for Romeu at Stamford Bridge, but things never took off. He was shipped out on several loans, which included Valencia and Stuttgart.

Romeu will be hoping things improve for the remainder of the season, if he does start on Saturday afternoon, it’ll be just his 11th start of the campaign since arriving at St.Mary’s Stadium.

The reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge saw Koeman’s side run out 3-1 victors as Chelsea’s demise was just getting started.
