February, on the whole, was a success for the Blues as Chelsea remained unbeaten in the league under interim manager Guus Hiddink.
They progressed into the next round in the FA Cup as they look to secure European football for next season.
Although the Londoners lost 2-1 in the first leg against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, the crucial away goal will give Chelsea fans hope that this squad can still knock off the Ligue 1 Champions and reach the quarter-finals.
We’ve decided to rank the best Chelsea player, goal, match and individual performance in February. Let us know if you agree.
Player of the month - Diego Costa
With three goals in February, Costa was Chelsea’s top scorer and also their top performer.
The Spaniard continued his revitalised form under Guus Hiddink with a number of crucial goals and fantastic play when his team needed him the most.
Against Man United, Costa grabbed the late equaliser to give his side the point and his goal against Manchester City started off the rout and eased the pressure on the team.
Honourable mention:
Cesc Fabregas continued to be the catalyst for Chelsea’s success with his excellent play from deep as he picked apart teams from deep.
Game of the month - Chelsea 5 - 1 Newcastle
This game was reminiscent of the title winning form last year as the Blues breezed past the Magpies.
Chelsea looked strong and powerful as they played with free flowing football that tore apart Newcastle with ease.
The players enjoyed their freedom on the pitch and the game set the tone for the rest of the month as Chelsea surged up the table.
Honourable mention:
Chelsea 5 – 1 Man City – The FA Cup tie was a huge game for Chelsea as they look to secure a European place for next season but the win was a formality against a young and inexperienced City side.
Goal of the Month - Pedro's first vs Newcastle
Both Pedro’s efforts versus Newcastle were the pick of the punch for this month as the Spaniard fired in two exquisite efforts from outside the box.
For the first goal, Pedro intercepted the ball near the halfway line before leaving the Newcastle defenders in his wake as he then calmly slotted the ball into the net with a beautiful curling effort.
Honourable mentions:
Costa vs Man United – The player of the month latched onto a Fabregas through ball and controlled the ball as he rounded David De Gea and fired into the empty goal. Given the pressure of the moment, Costa’s composure and technique was remarkable and it proved to be a vital point for the Blues.
Willian vs Man City – The Brazilian collected the ball from Eden Hazard and burst into the box before firing an arrowed strike into the far corner from a tight angle and the finish was typical of what Chelsea fans have come to expect of Willian this season.
Individual performance - Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s performances this season have been below par but he was phenomenal against City as he tore past the opposition with ease.
Collecting two fine assists along the way, he even added a goal to his tally with a free kick which deceived Willy Caballero as it curled into the bottom corner.
Honourable mention:
Diego Costa vs Man United – Costa was everywhere against the Red Devils as he hunted down every loose ball while giving his opposing defenders little time on the ball. Not only did the 27-year-old bring others into play, he also grabbed the crucial equaliser in added time.
