Houghton, who has captained the club at under 21 level, was part of the double winning squad that won the UEFA Youth League and the FA Youth Cup.

The midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan at League One side, Gillingham, but returned to Chelsea. During his time away from the club, he made 14 starts for the club and one appearance from the bench.

When asked about any possible additions to the squad, Plymouth manager, Derek Adams, told the Plymouth Herald:

That could be possible. It depends on how negotiations go over the next 24 hours. We will see how it goes.

Derek Adams will know what he is adding to his side. Houghton played against Argyle in the first round of the Capital One Cup back in August, his then Gillingham side, won the game 2-1.
