Everton new boy, Oumar Niasse has revealed that Jose Mourinho was interested in bringing him to Chelsea in January.

According to the Guardian, the latest Everton signing had caught Mourinho’s eye and the former Chelsea boss had held an interest for a long time.

Niasse said:

My manager told me Mourinho was interested, he said Mourinho liked the way I play and had been looking at me since I was in Turkey [with Akhisar Belediyespor]. He was very interested in me for this last transfer window but then he was sacked.

The striker joined Everton from Lokomotiv Moscow in the January transfer window after being linked with several moves across Europe. Chelsea, as well as Tottenham and Newcastle, were all thought to be monitoring the player.

Mourinho was long gone at Chelsea by the time the end of the transfer window had come around. The Blues decided to go for Alexandre Pato for cover in the striker’s department.

This news follows Everton win at Goodison Park over Chelsea in the FA Cup to book themselves a place in the competition’s semi-finals at Wembley, but for Chelsea, their season looks all but over with left to play for.
