The president of the Italian FA, Carlo Tavecchio says that Antonio Conte’s move to Chelsea is not a money related one.
According to the Mirror, Tavecchio said that the manager was looking to return to club football after managing the Italian national team at Euro 2016 for football reasons.
It was confirmed yesterday that Conte would leave his post as Italy manager following his side’s conclusion at this summer’s tournament in France.
Tavecchio says that Conte is returning for the lure of club football.
Antonio told me he’ll end his experience after the European Championships, he feels the lure of the pitch and that’s understandable. I’ll always be grateful for his commitment and sacrifice, but he misses the smell of the grass, and that’s the most important thing he said to me. Money has nothing to do with it – it is about the work. (As Italy boss) In the morning you wake up and there’s no work to do on the pitch.

Conte has been the front runner for the job to replace Guus Hiddink for some time and it looks days away from being made official after days of reports that claim the finer details of his deal at Stamford Bridge are being finalised.
The news will be music to Chelsea’s fans ears as the club look to enter a new era following a disastrous title defence under Jose Mourinho.
