Chelsea on alert as forward eyes London move
Chelsea are reportedly on red alert after PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic paved the way for a summer move to the country’s capital, according to the Mail Online.
The Sweden international is set to leave France when his contract expires in the summer and has repeatedly hinted that his next destination could be in the Premier League.
Now, having reportedly made the claim that he would like a move to a London club, Chelsea will back themselves to land the talismanic forward, with the Blues being the most viable candidate.
Arsenal could also be in the hunt, especially after Arsene Wenger has come under so much scrutiny in recent weeks for his lack of a world-class striker.
However, Ibrahimovic famously rejected a move to the Gunners as a teenager before joining Ajax so it is unlikely both the player and the club would be serious about a deal.
Spurs do not have the financial resources to offer an attractive contract, and while West Ham could potentially compete for the Swede’s signature with their imminent move to the Olympic Stadium, they would likely be rebuffed by the 34-year-old.
A potential stumbling block for the deal, however, could be the presence of incoming manager Antonio Conté.
Conté is famously a hard task master and demands absolute respect and authority from his players.
In addition to this, the Italian is likely to employ a high-intensity pressing game, requiring his frontmen to work and defend from the front.
These are all things Ibrahimovic is unlikely to be fond about and as a result, the Swedish record goal-scorer may look to find another club where the team is built around and for him.
