Aston Villa are reportedly close to agreeing on a deal to take Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford on loan for the season.

The 23-year-old has struggled in previous loan spells with Crystal Palace and Norwich in the Premier League but was named the Championship player of the year with Middlesbrough in 2015.

With little chance of breaking into the Chelsea side under Italian Antonio Conte, Roberto Di Matteo is said to be close to agreeing on a loan deal for the youngster, with his Villa squad in need of some firepower.

Bamford moved from Nottingham Forest to Chelsea in 2011 but has not been able to kick on with his career.

With little time on the pitch, Bamford had to settle for loan deals and after impressing for Middlesbrough it looked as though he could have been a success. It was not to be, and after failed loan deals since, Bamford is set for another year away from his parent club.

With strikers such as Diego Costa, Michy Batshuayi already at the club and Romelu Lukaku targeted it looks like it may be another year away from Stamford Bridge for Bamford.
