Terry ready to leave Chelsea in order to prolong his career
John Terry is hoping to play for two seasons and accepts that they may be away from Stamford Bridge.
The club captain is under contract until the end of the season and has struggled to hold down a place under Antonio Conte.
As reported by the Mirror, Terry told SFR Sport that leaving Stamford Bridge may be an option if he’s to continue his playing career.
I still want to play for a couple more years — whether that is here at Chelsea or somewhere abroad, I don’t know. It’s an option.
Terry reveals that he’s studying for his coaching badges but isn’t yet sure whether or not that’s an area he wants to pursue when he eventually hangs his boots up.
I am contracted to Chelsea for this season and then will see after that. I’m doing my coaching badges. I don’t know if I want to be a coach, but I want to do my badges and pass.
Despite not being in the team, Terry is determined to bring Premier League glory back to Stamford Bridge again.
When I see other teams win it, it makes me feel angry, it makes me feel sick, you feel like you have let everyone down. I am where I am today because of that hunger. There were better players when I was younger, but I wanted it more.
He added:
It’s still there today, at the age of 35. You miss that feeling of being the champion, being the best. Nothing can ever replace that.
This is why I still want to carry on playing, because that hunger is still there to be the best to win trophies for my football club.
Terry admits he’s happy to be on the sidelines at the moment because the team are playing well. The Blues have won eight league games on the bounce but did lose in Terry’s last appearance, in the League Cup against West Ham.
It helps when you have a manager who is very honest. He used to be a player, so he knows.
The team are playing so well, you know that you’re not going to get back in the team. If I’m playing, fantastic. If I’m not, my attitude has never been one to sulk.
In the nicest way I hope I don’t get back in, because it means we are carrying on winning matches.
