Redknapp hails Costa as “the perfect striker”
Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp has hailed Diego Costa as “the perfect striker”, in his column for the Daily Mail.
Speaking after the Blues’ 3-1 win that saw them move four points clear of Pep Guardiola’s men, Redknapp believes that the Spaniard would’ve been lambasted if it was him rather than Sergio Aguero that saw red.
Could you imagine the backlash if Costa had gone in for a challenge as bad as Aguero’s on David Luiz? We all see Sergio as the saint and Costa the sinner but this was the complete opposite.
I was up in the stands on Saturday and could even see Costa acting as peacemaker during the fracas at the end.
Costa played a crucial part in Chelsea’s comeback, scoring their first and setting up Willian to put the Blues in front.
Eden Hazard scored the game’s fourth goal to seal all three points before the game turned nasty.
A reckless challenge from Aguero saw him shown a red card by Anthony Taylor before a fracas broke out between the two sets of players.
Fernandinho was also shown a red card after he grappled Cesc Fabregas by the throat and appeared to push him over the advertising boards and into the City supporters.
Redknapp went on to add:
We are blessed with the quality of centre forwards in our league. Earlier in the season I would have said Aguero was the best of the bunch but now I have to pick Costa. He is the perfect all-round centre forward.
