Patrick Bamford not ruling out a future return to Chelsea
Patrick Bamford says the door isn’t shut for a possible return to Stamford Bridge in the future.
Speaking on talkSPORT following his move to Middlesbrough, Bamford admitted that a permanent move away was the right thing to do for his career.
Bamford said:
I made a decision with my team that I had to be somewhere where I can enjoy myself and somewhere I can see myself settling down to concentrate on the football, and there was only one place I could do that.
The striker continued by not ruling out a return to the club in the future.
But I’m not closing the door on Chelsea. You never know what will happen in the future, depending on how well I do.
Bamford has struggled for regular football during his last three loan spells away from Chelsea but finally sealed a permanent switch to Middlesbrough, where he enjoyed some of his best football.
Bamford never made a senior appearance for Chelsea’s first-team but impressed during his spell in the Championship with Middlesbrough.
He was voted the Championship’s Player of the Season during the campaign where they narrowly missed out on promotion to Norwich in the play-off final at Wembley.
The former Nottingham Forest man had spent the first half of the season on loan at Burnley but failed to break into Sean Dyche’s team.
