Frank Lampard has officially retired, bringing to an end one of the greatest careers in the history of the Premier League.
Despite all the global stars that have called England’s top flight home, Lampard has surpassed almost all of them statistically.
After his retirement, many former teammates and coaches took to social media to praise Lampard’s legendary work ethic and humble personality.
His desire, world class technique and incredible knack for appearing in the right place at the right time, helped Lampard cement his place as the Premier League’s greatest ever goalscoring midfielder.
In his time at Chelsea, Lampard helped guide Chelsea to three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, two League Cups, two Community Shields, a Champions League, and a Europa League.
While Lampard will probably argue that these thirteen career trophies were his most impressive achievement, that would be a disservice to the incredible individual career he enjoyed. These statistics, in particular, reveal just how impressive a career the English midfielder enjoyed:
Chelsea's all time leading goal scorer
Lampard is Chelsea’s all-time leading Premier League goal scorer with 147 career goals to his name. To put this in perspective, Didier Drogba is next in line with 103 goals. When it came to goals, Lampard was the Chelsea king, always popping up in the big moment.
Consecutive 15 goal seasons
Lampard was a model of consistency throughout his career. He once scored 15+ goals in seven consecutive seasons and reached that mark in nine of his ten seasons. What most midfielders would consider a dream season, Lampard achieved for a decade.
Premier League's fourth top goal scorer
When it comes to Lampard, goals are the common theme. Lampard sits in fourth place in the Premier League’s top goalscorer charts just edging out the prolific Thierry Henry. He is the only midfielder in the top 15 all-time Premier League scorers list. 177 goals is a simply astonishing goal return for a player in his position.
Top five in appearances, goals and assists
As previously alluded to, Lampard’s goals always get the headlines, but he was far from one trick pony. Lampard ranks in the top four in the Premier League in assists and appearances as well. No other player is in the top 18 of goals, assists, and appearances. It is quite likely that we will never see another career like Super Frank’s.
