Defender wants to achieve legendary status at Chelsea
Chelsea’s Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta says he wants to achieve legendary status at Stamford Bridge.
As reported by the Metro, ‘Dave’ as he known among Chelsea supporters believes winning more trophies at the club will allow him to do just that.
I’m pleased for those words but to become a Chelsea legend you have to win trophies. I have won the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup – I don’t know how many it would take, but some players have won Champions League and other trophies, and you want to get up there with them.
At the moment it is going well. But we want more and we are working on that. Now we are in a good position for the final sprint.
The Blues currently sit 10 points clear of Tottenham at the top of the Premier League and 11 clear of Manchester City, who have a game in hand, as the club appear to be closing in on another Premier League title in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge.
Azpilicueta joined the club from Marseille in 2012 for just £7 million and has gone on to win the Premier League, Europa League and League Cup since joining.
The defender struggled initially after joining, failing to dislodge Ashley Cole at left-back before being moved to right-back by Jose Mourinho. He was voted Players’ Player of the Year at the end of the 2013-14 season.
The Spanish international will be hoping to add another Premier League title and possibly an FA Cup winner’s medal to his collection at the end of the season.
