Not many thought Marcos Alonso would be as big of a hit at Stamford Bridge as he is today.
The former Bolton and Sunderland man arrived from Fiorentina for £22m in the summer to play left wing-back in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formational and has been a huge success.
Alonso has attracted the interest of Barcelona and Real Madrid in recent years and confirmed earlier this year that he turned down a move to the Nou Camp in order to join the Blues.
That being said, Real Madrid are still keen on signing Alonso after rejecting the chance to sign him several years ago in favour of tying Fabio Coentrao down to a new contract.
Marca state that Alonso is a ‘dream option’ for Madrid, but they face an uphill battle if they wish to land the Spanish defender.
Given the success he’s had at Chelsea, the fee and the fact that he’ll be playing Champions League football next season, Madrid have resigned themselves to not signing him.
Another win for the Blues.
