Chelsea have suffered a number of blows in their pursuit of a top striker this summer but the Blues are believed to be closing in on a much-needed defensive addition.

With little depth at either fullback position, Chelsea have made a move to sign Real Madrid defender Danilo and the Mirror say the Blues are expected to conclude the £28m transfer in time for the player to join up with the first-team squad for their tour of the Far East.

While both Marcos Alonso and Victor Moses impressed in their wing-back roles last season, the Blues lack any options beyond the pair and Danilo, who can play on either side of the defence, would be an excellent addition to the squad.

The 26-year-old Brazilian has made it clear to Madrid that he wants to leave the club for the Premier League winners and he is well on course to complete a transfer.
