Batshuayi winning battle to stay at Chelsea this season
Michy Batshuayi is close to earning a place in the Chelsea squad for the upcoming campaign after impressing manager Antonio Conte in pre-season, according to a report from Simon Johnson of Standard Sport.
The Belgian international looked all but certain to be loaned out after a rather disappointing first year at Chelsea but he’s flourished in the absence of Diego Costa in recent weeks and there is now a good chance he stays at Stamford Bridge as back-up to Alvaro Morata.
The 23-year-old has scored five goals in three pre-season friendlies and, according to Johnson, he’s impressed Conte in training sessions too.
Fernando Llorente is constantly being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge but even if he does arrive, there is a very good chance that Conte would also keep Batshuayi as he looks to have a squad which can cope with the demands of competing for honours domestically and in Europe simultaneously.
