Chelsea failed in Walker move
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed that he failed in a bid to sign Kyle Walker before his move to Manchester City.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, Conte has confirmed that he was unable to secure a deal for Walker before he sealed his switch to the Etihad.
Walker completed his world-record £50m move to Manchester City earlier this summer. It was the highest fee ever paid for a right-back in history.
Conte said this:
If you want Walker, you know that Walker is expensive. We tried to buy Walker.
Honestly, I think now every single player is expensive. For you to even enquire about one player, he is expensive.
The England international was a hot property this summer, with it seemingly obvious that he was going to leave Tottenham.
Conte has now revealed that Chelsea were one of the clubs keen on signing him but Manchester City beat them to his signature.
Chelsea were also said to be eyeing a move for Real Madrid right-back Danilo, who completed his move to Manchester City last week.
The club have added players this summer, though, with Willy Cabellero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata all signing for Chelsea.
