Alonso backs Morata to be a hit for Chelsea
Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso has backed Alvaro Morata to be a hit this season.
The club completed the signing of Morata from Real Madrid for a fee in the region of £58m earlier this month.
Morata was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United but the move broke down as the Old Trafford side opted to sign Romelu Lukaku.
The former Everton forward – Lukaku – was a top target for Antonio Conte but the signing of Morata looks to have eased his disappointment at missing out on the Belgian.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, Alonso had this to say about his new teammate:
I know him quite well from when we were at Real Madrid. We never played together but I know him a little bit.
I think it will be no problem for him to get used to English football and to adapt to the team. He already looks like he’s been here for a long time. He will be a great player for us.
Morata, 24, was Chelsea’s fourth addition of the summer. Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko have already joined the club this month.
The Spanish international, Morata, is set to replace Diego Costa – who looks like he is on his way back to Atletico Madrid.
