Chelsea considering shock move for Jamie Vardy
Chelsea still want to add to their attack before the transfer window closes and are eyeing a move for Leicester City star Jamie Vardy, according to the Mirror.
Diego Costa is not part of the Chelsea first-team picture anymore with the Spaniard set to leave before the transfer deadline next week, and with Michy Batshuayi also being linked with a move, Antonio Conte wants a new forward and has identified Vardy as a potential buy.
While Chelsea are usually looking for younger players, a deal for Vardy is appealing as the Blues feel they can sign the 30-year-old for a below-market fee this summer.
Vardy spearheaded Leicester to their historic first Premier League title two seasons ago and also netted 13 goals last season along with two already in the new campaign.
Still in possession of his pace, Vardy would make a nice alternative option to club-record signing Alvaro Morata in attack, but no bid has been launched just yet.
Vardy rejected a move to Arsenal last summer in order to sign a new long-term contract with Leicester but now the Foxes are out of the Champions League and have assumed their usual role in the Premier League hierarchy, he may be tempted by a move to Stamford Bridge.
