Chelsea were not successful in their attempts to offload Diego Costa during the summer transfer window but that hasn’t stopped them from negotiating a potential sale down the line.
After being made surplus to requirements by Antonio Conte, Costa went AWOL and signalled his intent to leave the club and return to Atletico Madrid who he left for Stamford Bridge three years ago.
With UEFA placing a transfer embargo on Atletico until January 1st, 2018, Costa’s dream return to La Liga was put on hold for the time being and Chelsea were unable to organise a temporary loan exit for the 28-year-old.
Costa is largely expected to leave Chelsea in January and the Blues have been in talks with Atletico regarding a transfer for some time now, but Marca believe a £54m agreement has finally been reached.
The report claims that a deal could be wrapped up by the end of next week with Costa joining Atletico, who he spent four years with before leaving for Chelsea in 2014, when the January transfer window opens up.
