Shearer praises “excellent” Morata after Costa exit
Premier League all-time top scorer Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata after the Spaniard made a lightning start to his Blues career, according to a report from the Daily Star.
Morata has adapted to the Premier League swiftly, something which many players take months, even years to do and Shearer has been very impressed so far.
The Match Of The Day pundit has been keeping a close eye on Morata after the striker made the £75m switch to Stamford Bridge from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid.
He believes that his rich scoring form has led to Chelsea not missing Diego Costa, whose strained relationship with the London club led to a return to Atletico Madrid.
24-year-old Morata has managed to find the back of the net six times already in the Premier League, including a stunning hat-trick against Stoke City.
Morata also netted in the UEFA Champions League against Atletico Madrid with a deft header.
“When foreign players come into our league, there’s always a question mark against them. I know he’s got an injury now but, up until last weekend, he’s had an excellent start,” said Shearer.
“He’s looked strong, scored goals both with his head [and feet]. There hasn’t been that much talk about Chelsea missing Diego Costa. And that will tell you how well Morata has done,” he continued.
Morata now faces a spell on the sidelines after picking up a hamstring injury in the defeat against Manchester City.
