Three strikers on Chelsea’s radar as Conte prepares for January
Having been frustrated in his attempts to add a second striker to his squad in the summer following the arrival of Alvaro Morata, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is already planning to bring in a new striker in January, according to Matt Law of the Telegraph.
Conte was keen to sign Fernando Llorente from Swansea City but Tottenham hijacked that move, leaving the Blues empty-handed.
It’s becoming more and more clear that the Italian isn’t keen on Michy Batshuayi and it looks like he’s eyeing up three possible replacements for the Belgian international.
The first is Batshuayi’s international teammate Christian Benteke. Conte has been a long-time admirer of the Crystal Palace striker, although the Blues would have to fork out a lot of money for Palace to even consider selling Benteke as they battle relegation.
Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy is another player who Conte is keen on but again, getting the Foxes to sell him could be difficult and with the World Cup on the horizon, Vardy is likely to want to be playing regularly, something he would not be guaranteed at Chelsea.
The third option is Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye, a player who Chelsea will scout this week when his side face Arsenal in the Champions League.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian is certainly an exciting prospect but bringing him in to replace Batshuayi would be a risk as he’s not too experienced at the highest levels.
