Chelsea do not need to regret Salah and Lukaku sales says Redknapp
Jamie Redknapp says that Chelsea do not need to regret high-profile deals that saw them sell the likes of Mohamed Salah and Romelu Lukaku.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, Redknapp questions whether or not Antonio Conte would trade the pairing of Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata in exchange for Salah and Lukaku, who apply their trade for Liverpool and Manchester United respectively.
Chelsea’s previous transfer business was once again in the headlines over the course of the weekend as the pair both scored, while another former Blue, Kevin De Bruyne, was on the scoresheet against Leicester.
De Bruyne has arguably been the standout player throughout the Premier League so far this season.
The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder admits that the Belgian playmaker may have been one that Chelsea got wrong.
Would Antonio Conte trade Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata for Salah and Lukaku? And let us not forget that Chelsea have won the title in two of the last three seasons without this trio. The club have been criticised for letting them go but De Bruyne – now the Premier League’s best player – can be their only real regret.
De Bruyne left Chelsea for Wolfsburg after failing to impress Jose Mourinho, who was not happy with the player’s attitude.
Lukaku himself was linked with a return to Chelsea throughout the summer but opted to join Mourinho at Manchester United, while the Premier League champions signed Morata from Real Madrid.
