Conte is wary of Salah threat
Antonio Conte is wary of the threat of Mohamed Salah ahead of Saturday’s clash between Chelsea and Liverpool, and insists that his side’s busy travel schedule must not be used as an excuse for complacency.
Since joining the Reds’ in the summer, the Egyptian forward has made a major impact, currently leading the Premier League goal-scoring table with nine goals.
Talking during Friday’s pre-match press conference, Conte said;
Salah is a good player and is very dangerous.
He is a technical player, but at the same time is very fast, very strong, very good in one v one.
Salah initially made his debut in England with Chelsea, joining in 2014 from Swiss club Basel. However, he struggled for minutes at Chelsea, and after two loans spells to Fiorentina and Roma, he joined the latter on a permanent basis before returning to England last summer.
Chelsea currently sit in third place, just one point behind Manchester United, but a win for Liverpool could see them jump up from fifth place to sit level on points with the Blues.
Conte, is especially wary of the threat Salah poses ahead of the game. He went on to say;
He’s very good to finish. We must pay great attention, but not only to Salah, also to (Sadio) Mane, (Roberto) Firmino, Philippe Coutinho, (Daniel) Sturridge.
They have a good coach (Jurgen Klopp), they have a good identity. Great organisation, especially offensively. They are very dangerous.
However the former Juventus and Italy coach was reluctant to be drawn into why Salah was allowed to leave Chelsea, albeit before Conte’s spell at Stamford Bridge began, simply saying;
He was very young and I think he developed a lot.
