Olivier Giroud has again expressed his delight to be playing for Chelsea, hailing the club as “perfect”.
The France international joined the Blues on the final day of the January transfer window from Arsenal in a deal thought to be worth in the region of £15 million.
Giroud made his first start in Chelsea colours on Monday night and turned in an impressive display, with Antonio Conte’s men coming away with a 3-0 home win against West Brom.
As quoted by the Mirror, the experienced forward spoke about why Chelsea is the perfect club for him as he aims to impress in the remaining section of the season.
It’s been a while since I played regularly and that’s why I needed to move. I needed a new challenge and Chelsea was the perfect club for me.
It’s the Premier League, a club which has won more titles in the past ten years than any other. It’s a massive club and I am very proud to be here and to carry on my career in the Premier League.
Giroud will hope to retain his starting place under Conte, with the World Cup to come at the end of the season. The ex-Montpellier forward will know that France have an abundance of quality strikers, and he must perform if he is to persuade Didier Deschamps that he is a useful tool for the tournament in Russia.
Next up for Chelsea is Hull in the FA Cup fifth round, in which Giroud will hope to be given the nod once again.
I had five amazing years there (at Arsenal), but now it’s a new chapter of my career and I am focused 100 per cent on the Blues to reach our targets. I’m very happy to be here.
