Conte defends players after Roy Keane comments
According to the Metro, Antonio Conte has come out in defence of his players, after Roy Keane labelled them as “unprofessional”.
Conte has found himself under a lot of pressure recently, after two losses to Bournemouth and Watford, 3-0 and 4-1 respectively, and Keane has come out to claim that the Italian’s players are being unprofessional.
Keane said
These Chelsea lads are so unprofessional. When they go and win the league and the last few years, they downed tools under different managers. It’s shocking behaviour.
The former Manchester United midfielder is clearly alluding to when Jose Mourinho won the league with The Blues, then during the next season, it was clear that the Portuguese man had lost the dressing room, which led to his sacking. This has clear similarities to the Conte situation right now.
Since Keane’s comments, Conte has come out in defence for his players, he said this when asked if he agreed with the Irishman
No, as you know very well, in every moment I underline the commitment of the players. I think that in this year and a half we’ve had a great mentality. In every training session I see great commitment and great behaviour. In this aspect I’m very happy.
If Chelsea can go through in the FA Cup against Hull City this weekend and also get a good result in the first leg of their Champions League tie against the might of Barcelona next week, then Keane maybe eating his words.
