Barcelona’s Semedo to miss second leg against Chelsea
Barcelona have been dealt a major injury blow ahead of their second leg against Chelsea with the news that defender Nelson Semedo has been ruled out for five weeks.
Samuel Marsden reports that the Portuguese international will be out of action with a hamstring problem.
The defender was forced off during the final stages of Barcelona’s 6-1 win at home to Girona on Saturday.
Semedo was suspended for the first leg at Stamford Bridge and was expected to start during the second leg at the Nou Camp.
The defender has enjoyed a fine first season at Barcelona, where he appears to have solved the right-back problem the club have endured since Dani Alves left the club.
Sergi Roberto started the game at Stamford Bridge at right back and the Spaniard is likely to do the same when the two sides meet again.
Roberto could be preferred to Aleix Vidal, the slightly more attacking option, with Barcelona taking an away goal advantage into the game.
