# Striker reveals why he rejected Chelsea

Seydou Doumbia has revealed why he turned down offers from the Premier League in order to return to Russia.

[The Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/603720/Chelsea-Spurs-Watford-target-Doumbia-rejected-offers), who quote Africa Top Sports, claim that Chelsea was one of three Premier League clubs interested in signing Seydou Doumbia from the Italian side, AS Roma.

Doumbia wanted out of Italy after failing to settle, Chelsea along with Tottenham and Watford did express an interest. The speedy striker had only recently joined Roma, however, he has now returned to the side he previously left, CSKA Moscow.

He has now revealed his thinking behind his move.

> In Rome I was not happy and I did not enjoy my football, from the very first day I never felt comfortable.

The report suggests that Doumbia was an option for Jose Mourinho, instead of Colombian, Radamel Falcao.

> I had other offers from England but in the end I chose to go back to Russia, as there was the Champions League and I knew I would feel most comfortable at CSKA.

Tottenham went on to turn their attention to Lyon’s [Clinton N’Jie](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33946032) and Watford signed [Victor Ibarbo](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34114298) on loan from AS Roma.

The Ivorian striker would have brought some speed to Chelsea’s attacking force. Whilst he may not have adapted to the Premier League, he is an experienced striker, both at international level and in the Champions League.

Would you have liked to see Doumbia at Stamford Bridge? Could he have been a good signing for Jose Mourinho?
