# Chelsea striker keen to put the past behind him

19-year-old striker Islam Feruz is keen to put his past behind him and make an impact for the right reasons this season ahead of his loan spell with Hibernian, according to [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3227173/Islam-Feruz-says-star-Chelsea-ahead-Hibernian-debut.html).

Feruz, who’s talents were spotted by Celtic at the age of just 10, after his family moved from Somalia, has a rather wounded reputation in Scotland however; after signing for Chelsea in 2011 despite spending six years with Celtic.

The striker made matters worse for himself in England as well, after his Chelsea move.

Numerous off-field incidents resulted in Feruz rubbing the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge up the wrong way, whilst also being dropped from Scotland’s youth squads, after a series of tweets expressing his desire to play in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Furthermore, a succession of unsuccessful loan spells have also hindered the 19-year-old’s progression. He was sent back from a loan spell at Blackpool, during which he only played 16 minutes, for tweeting: ‘This team takes more kick-offs than corners,’ after a 4-0 defeat to Brentford.

However, it seems the penny has now dropped for Feruz, who vows to make amends after admitting to making a series of mistakes during his teenage years.

> I know a lot of people will want to judge me based on what I’ve done in the past rather than who I am now. But it would be nice to be judged on what I do at Hibs and how I behave in Scotland.

The striker now seems determined to make a positive impact during his time with Hibs, insisting he has matured as a person and a player.

> I think I’ve got wiser. I’ve made a few mistakes but I’ve learned from them. And if it was not for the mistakes, then I wouldn’t be the man I am today. What were my biggest mistakes? Just getting into trouble!

> I’m hoping for a good loan spell at Hibs after what’s happened in the past. I’d like to get my career up and running and I’ve been told by the manager \[Alan Stubbs\] he will give me games.

> When I was younger I didn’t know how to ignore all the attention and I did things I shouldn’t have. As I grew up, I learned to ignore it.Was money at Chelsea the problem? No.
