# Chelsea eye £29m Porto midfielder

Chelsea could be set to bid for Porto youngster Ruben Neves according to the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-to-launch-bid-for-29m-porto-midfielder-ruben-neves-next-summer-a3071136.html).

The 18-year-old played on Tuesday night as Porto overcame Chelsea in the Champions League, and Jose Mourinho was said to have been impressed by his performance.

The Portuguese under-21 player has been scouted by Chelsea on a number of occasions, but he is, of course, attracting interest from a host of other clubs.

The defensive midfielder has a £29m release clause in his current contract, however, and that may prove a sticking point for The Blues.

Rumours of a move for [Paul Pogba](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/601559/Exclusive-Chelsea-Transfer-news-break-British-record-72m-Paul-Pogba) continued over the summer, signifying Chelsea’s belief that midfield is a weak point for them.

The Frenchman, Pogba, looks set to move elsewhere, however, leaving Chelsea exploring other potential options.

Neves represents great potential but could also be seen as a risk for the club, given age and price tag.

The Evening Standard say a bid is more likely next summer than in January, so Chelsea may have to make do with what they have for the remainder of this season.
