# Martial turned Chelsea down prior to Manchester United move

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial rejected a move to Premier League champions Chelsea in favour of a move to Manchester, according to [The Independent.](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/anthony-martial-forward-rejected-rejected-higher-offer-from-chelsea-to-sign-for-united-in-36m-move-a6694676.html)

The Blues reportedly made an approach to sign the 19-year-old during the summer, and despite Monaco willing to negotiate a deal with the Londoners, the Frenchman had his heart firmly set on a move to United.

Reports from France last month suggested an unnamed club, now confirmed as Chelsea, out-bid United’s £36m offer for the youngster although Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev did not reveal the full figure.

> There was another club that offered even more than United. I will not say how much, but the fixed price, without variables, it was even better \[than United’s offer\]. And also they offered us to have him for a further year in Monaco.

The Frenchman has made an instant impact following his big-money move from the principality, scoring four goals in seven appearances for the club, including a debut goal against Liverpool.

And Vasilyev revealed the move to United was one the 19-year-old had been dreaming about and had it not been for the money United offered, he would’ve rejected Chelsea once again to stay in Monaco.

> The boy wanted to go to Manchester, it was his dream. And we let him go with the bonus of €30million. Had it not been for so much money, he’d have stayed.
