# Mourinho: I don’t think I’ll finish my career at Chelsea

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says that he would like to finish his career at the Blues, but he doesn’t think it will happen due to the demands of modern football.

Mourinho is going through one of the most difficult spells of his managerial career so far, as his Chelsea side continue to struggle in their attempt to retain their status as Premier League champions.

The Portuguese boss has a contract at Stamford Bridge that runs up until 2019, and he said he’d like to extend his stay past that as he feels he will continue to be a manager for another 15 years.

Mourinho said to the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/jose-mourinho-i-will-not-finish-my-career-at-chelsea-a3091866.html):

> I’m in the middle \[of my career\] I did 15 \[ years\], I have 15 more to do. I’ll finish at 67. Maybe later if I can. Can I stay 15 more years at Chelsea Football Club? I don’t think so. I don’t think modern football allows it any more, so normally I will not finish my career at Chelsea. I would like to, but I don’t think it’s possible.

Mourinho’s Chelsea career might not even last until the end of the season if their bad spell continues, and anything less than three points against Aston Villa at the weekend will cast even more doubts over his future.

It’s clear that Mourinho has the backing of his players, as a number of them have spoken positively about him this week, but in a results business, only wins will keep you in a job.
