# Chelsea can still win the league says Deco

Former Chelsea and Portuguese international, Deco says his former side can still go on to win the Premier League.

Speaking to the [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p036gnk3), Deco has backed Chelsea to compete in the race for the title, despite losing five out of their first 10 games. The Blues are currently 11 points off leaders Manchester City and Arsenal and only five points off the dreaded relegation spots.

If the Blues are to compete this season, they will need to pick up their form and a mid-week defeat to Stoke in the Capital One Cup will not help their confidence. Jose Mourinho was feeling positive despite the defeat to Stoke last night, claiming the players proved their critics wrong.

Deco, who was at Chelsea from 2008 to 2010, admits the Premier League is a very tough league:

> In my opinion, the Premier League is stronger than in the past few years, it is difficult. All the clubs have a lot of high-quality players. But the season is still long.

The former Chelsea midfielder was full of praise for Jose Mourinho, he went on to add:

> I think Chelsea can still win the title. Of course, it is difficult when you are losing games. But I think a gap of nine or 10 points can still be closed in the Premier League.

> Mourinho is one of the best coaches in the world. He is one of the best I have worked with, he knows his team and he knows how to play because they won the title last season. He knows his players very well.
