# Simeone would demand control at Chelsea

The Blues’ early-season struggles have naturally prompted a great deal of speculation over both José Mourinho’s future as well as any potential replacements should Roman Abramovich decide to make a change.

One name that has popped up in various places is Diego Simeone, currently managing Atlético Madrid. Simeone has raised his profile since winning La Liga with Atléti in 2014 and reaching the Champions League final so much that his name finds its way into the rumour mill for nearly every high-profile European job that opens up.

However, [it has been reported](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/diego-simeone-want-big-chelsea-6792672), by the Mirror, that Simeone is not overly impressed with the current Chelsea squad and believes that improvement would require a great deal of potentially very expensive investment. Additionally, he would reportedly want control over transfer policy during his tenure.

Another potential barrier that stands between a high-profile name like Simeone or Pep Guardiola – another rumoured target of Abramovich – is the potential for Chelsea to miss out on Champions League football for the 2016-2017 season.

The Blues currently sit 13 points out of fourth place in the Premier League. Without a Champions League spot, Abramovich may find it extremely difficult to lure Simeone from Madrid or Guardiola from Munich. While Abramovich has not yet made a final decision about Mourinho’s future, the club cannot afford to fall any further behind without putting their Champions League hopes to bed completely, so it is doubtful that he can afford any more setbacks.

With neither Simeone nor Guardiola available before summer, the club may turn its sights to either Brendan Rodgers or Carlo Ancelotti if Mourinho does not last the season.
