# Mourinho rejects youngster’s request to go out on loan

Chelsea youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek has had his request to leave the club on loan rejected by Jose Mourinho, according to [reports](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/618600/Chelsea-Ruben-Loftus-Cheek-Transfer-News-Gossip).

The 19-year-old has started just one Premier League game, which came against Aston Villa in October. He’s also started one Champions League tie and a League Cup game too.

Loftus-Cheek reportedly asked to go on loan amid offers from some top flight and Championship sides, but the Chelsea manager wants to keep him at the club so he can develop in the team environment.

Speaking in the summer about the possibility of the midfielder going on loan, [Mourinho said](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/593195/Jose-Mourinho-Chelsea-Ruben-Loftus-Cheek-Transfer-News-Gossip):

> He is one I am not interested in letting go on loan, I want to keep him because he needs to improve a lot and I think the best way for him to improve is to be working with us every day, even if he doesn’t play much.

Chelsea’s poor run of form could be another reason why Loftus-Cheek has had his request rejected. The Blues currently sit in 16th place in the league table, just three points above the relegation zone, and with some players massively underperforming, there’s a chance that Mourinho might turn to one or two youngsters to inject some life into his side.
