# Holland rules himself out of Fulham job

Chelsea’s first team assistant coach, Steve Holland has ruled himself out as a contender for the Fulham job, according to the [Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/fulham-target-birminghams-gary-rowett-6893055).

After the Championship failed in an attempt to lure former Chelsea assistant, Steve Clarke from Reading, Holland was in the frame for the job.

Despite being approached, Holland insisted he was happy to stay with Champions, as a member of the backroom staff, despite their current predicament.

Fellow London side, Fulham are now thought to be looking at the possibility of approaching Birmingham City’s Gary Rowett.

Holland has been at Chelsea’s since 2009 after joining from Stoke, where he was an academy director. He has been the first-team assistant since 2011 following the success of the reserve side he managed.

As well as working with Chelsea, he is also working with Gareth Southgate for England U21s as an assistant originally just for the qualification stages, however, Southgate [wants](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/gareth-southgate-desperate-chelsea-coach-6641632) Holland to stay on further.
