# Willian can break Champions League record says Juninho

Former Brazilian legend, Juninho says Willian can break the Champions League record for the amount of goals scored by direct free-kicks in one season, according to [FourFourTwo](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/willian-can-set-new-champions-league-record-juninho#:mqwcaCCCWicG8A) who quote Globo Esporte.

Willian matched the former Lyon midfielder’s record by scoring his fourth direct free-kick in the Champions League by netting against Israeli side, Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

Juninho originally set the record during the 2005-06 season but admits that Willian can go on to further that record.

> It’s good it’s a Brazilian, and from this new generation of good players we have,It is very gratifying for me because when I scored these four goals, no one said anything.

The Brazilian has been Chelsea’s best player this season by a long mile and has not just been scoring free-kicks in the Champions League either. He has scored two others in the Premier League, against Newcastle and Southampton respectively.

Juninho went on to add:

> I’m being remembered by what Willian has achieved, and I think he has everything to beat the record. The Champions League has barely reached half way and Chelsea still have a few more games to play.

Willian came under criticism last season failing to add goals into his game, which overshadowed his high levels of performance in Chelsea’s title winning season. Now adding goals to his game, Willian recently admitted that he wanted to become a [legend](https://readchelsea.com/2015/11/15/willian-wants-to-become-a-chelsea-legend-and-win-ballon-dor/) at Stamford Bridge. Breaking records will be a great step towards doing so.
