# Cahill wants to be a big part of Chelsea’s future

Gary Cahill has been speaking to the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/gary-cahill-wants-to-emulate-chelsea-legends-didier-drogba-and-john-terry-a3128726.html?) about his future with Chelsea Football Club after he [signed](https://readchelsea.com/2015/12/02/cahill-signs-new-four-year-deal/) a new four year at Stamford Bridge at yesterday.

The defender’s new deal will keep him at Chelsea until 2019. Providing that Cahill see’s out those four years, he will have been at the club for seven years by the time his contract expires.

He admits that he wants to emulate the likes of Frank Lampard, John Terry, Petr Cech and Didier Drogba. Cahill admits those players are an inspiration to him after all that they achieved at the club.

> Ultimately the club have to want you to be here and with the competition that comes every year, it’s very hard to stay at the top of your game and stay in the team for nine-10 years like those guys have done.

Since joining the club in 2012, he has won five major club honours. Cahill has lifted the Premier League, League Cup, Europa League, FA Cup and the Champions League. The latter two coming in his debut season.

The England international admits the club has changed massively during his time here, but he admits he has had a great number of years and wants that to continue.

> I’m not surprised the team have changed, we have a lot of young players here. But looking forward I want to be a big part of it. My targets are to keep learning and improving, to take my game to the next level.

> I feel I am quite experienced but I want to get more and try to have an influence on the team in that respect. Ultimately, I want to deliver on the expectation of winning things.

> It’s been a terrific few years and I just want more of the same. I’m hungry to do that.
