# Ex-England international annoyed at Chelsea’s youth policy

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and England international, Chris Waddle says he is annoyed by the way Chelsea handle their youth players.

In reaction to the Premier League champions’ 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, Waddle told [BBC Radio 5Live](https://www.insidefutbol.com/2015/12/29/it-annoys-me-chelsea-produce-youngsters-then-dont-play-them-chris-waddle/260632/) that the club should give youngsters from the academy a chance in the first-team squad.

> What annoys me is Chelsea keep producing all these players.

Chelsea currently have over 30 youngsters out on loan, scattered across the Netherlands, Italy and England, just to name a few.

> They’ve got about 35 on loan, the Under-21 side usually win the league or a cup, yet none of their players seem to get in the first team.

Guus Hiddink was forced to play Eden Hazard out of position, as a striker on Monday night. Diego Costa was suspended for the game, Loic Remy suffered a late injury and loan striker, Radamel Falcao is yet to regain his fitness.

Waddle says Chelsea should be able to give a striker from the academy a chance in the first-team rather than having to play players out of position.

> They must have a centre-forward in the Under-21s who’s scoring goals – throw them in!

This follows news that Patrick Bamford will [return](https://readchelsea.com/2015/12/29/steve-parish-bemoans-bamford-departure/) to Chelsea in January after cutting his loan deal with Crystal Palace short.
