# Chelsea join United in the race for Mane

Chelsea are the latest team to join the race to sign Sadio Mane from Southampton in January, according to the [Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/chelsea-transfer-rumours-and-news-sadio-mane-linked-alex-teixeira-move-close-and-ulises-davila-deal-a6797031.html).

The Senegalese striker has been a long-term target for Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United and could leave the club this month.

Mane has reportedly had his head turned by the speculation surrounding his future, resulting in a poor run of form for both Southampton and Mane, who has scored three league goals this season.

He caught the eye of many potential suitors by scoring 13 in 44 Premier League appearances since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga. Last season Mane set a new Premier League record by scoring the fastest hat-trick in the league’s history against Aston Villa.

The Saints are notoriously famous for buying young talented players and selling them for a big profit, they have done so over previous seasons with players such as Morgan Schneiderlin, Luke Shaw and Callum Chambers to name a few. The 23-year-old could be the next name on that list.
