# Ivanovic close to agreeing a new contract extension

Serbian defender, Branislav Ivanovic is close to agreeing on a new 12-month extension at Stamford Bridge, according to the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/chelsea-close-to-agreeing-new-contracts-with-ruben-loftuscheek-and-branislav-ivanovic-a3154096.html?).

Ivanovic’s current deal expires at the end of the season and the defender is a thought to be a target for both [Milan](https://readchelsea.com/2015/12/01/inter-ready-to-move-for-ivanovic-in-january/) clubs in Italy, as well as the likes of Galatasaray.

Chelsea have a strict policy when offering new contracts to players above the age of 30. Above that age, Chelsea are keen to offer players year-by-year renewals.

Ivanovic was keen to secure a two-year-deal at Stamford Bridge but will be offered a 12-month extension. The Serbian will have the chance to earn himself another 12-month deal at the end of that, depending on how many games he features in the 2016/17 season.

Under Jose Mourinho, Ivanovic suffered a huge dip in form but since Guus Hiddink’s arrival, it seems the defender has turned a corner.

He looks set to join [Ruben Loftus-Cheek](https://readchelsea.com/2016/01/12/loftus-cheek-ready-commit-long-term-future-chelsea/) in penning a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
