# Chelsea make contact over Dimitri Payet deal

[Chelsea](https://readchelsea.com/) have made the first move in an attempt to sign West Ham and France midfielder, Dimitri Payet this summer.

According to respected Italian journalist [Gianluca Di Marzio](https://gianlucadimarzio.com/news-cat/west-ham-fissato-il-prezzo-di-payet-e-il-chelsea-ci-ha-pensato/), the West London club made contact with West Ham about a possible transfer for the attacking midfielder.

The news comes after Dimitri Payet stole the show for France last night during the opening game of [Euro 2016](https://readeuro2016.com/).

With one minute left of regulation time, Kante fed the ball to Payet who turned sharply and offloaded the ball onto his weaker left-foot before launching a 25-yard curling effort into the top right corner to give France a 2-1 victory in Saint-Denis.

The Hammers have reportedly slapped a £60m price-tag on the man they signed for £10.5m from Marseille last summer in a bid to ward off interest in their star man.

However, that hasn’t stopped Chelsea from asking the question about luring Payet to Stamford Bridge – although their enquiry was met with a resounding ‘no he’s not for sale’.

Payet recently became the highest-paid player in West Ham history, when he penned a new five-year deal with the club worth £120,000-a-week until the summer of 2021, and is openly very happy with life in East London and has no intention of leaving.
