# Lukaku to turn down new contract in favour of Chelsea move

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku looks set to turn down a bumper new £135,000-a-week contract from Everton in favour of a move back to Stamford Bridge, according to the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/romelu-lukaku-to-chelsea-striker-set-on-stamford-bridge-return-despite-new-135000aweek-everton-deal-a3314551.html).

After Mino Raiola has concluded the world-record transfer of Paul Pogba back to Manchester United, he will meet up with both Everton and Lukaku – his client, to discuss the forward’s future at the Merseyside club.

Chelsea are [reportedly](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3720479/Chelsea-willing-offer-Everton-65m-plus-Loic-Remy-bid-bring-Romelu-Lukaku-Stamford-Bridge.html) prepared to offer £65million and striker Loic Remy for their former Belgium forward, despite Everton insisting that they haven’t received an official offer and they now believe that the improved contract will persuade the 23-year-old to stay at Goodison Park for at least another season.

The Blues believe that another striker is a necessary addition to their rejuvenated squad, despite their obvious inadequacies in defence. A new centre-back and right-back are almost certainly required for Chelsea to compete this season.

Furthermore, the future of Chelsea striker Diego Costa seems to have been settled – with Antonio Conte having stated that Costa wants to stay, despite protracted interest from Costa’s former club Atletico Madrid.
