# Chelsea closing in on Fiorentina’s Marcos Alonso

Chelsea are currently negotiating a reported £20million deal with Fiorentina for their Spanish left-back Marcos Alonso. A deal is hoped to be concluded before the end of the transfer window, tomorrow, as reported by the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/08/30/chelsea-finalise-20m-move-for-marcos-alonso-and-look-to-loan-mar/).

Alonso has previous experience in English football – having had a three-year spell with Bolton Wanderers before moving to Fiorentina, where he has since been loaned out to Sunderland in 2014.

It’s believed that Antonio Conte is looking to bring in Alonso as a left-back because he’s naturally left footed, unlike Cesar Azpilicueta. As a result, Conte would move Azpilicueta back to right-back, whilst utilising Branislav Ivanovic as an emergency centre-back – in the face of increasing frustration in their pursuits of both Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessio Romagnoli.

25-year-old Alonso is a product of Real Madrid’s prestigious academy, but only made one appearance for the senior team before moving to Bolton in 2010.

He has attracted the interest from Chelsea as a result of playing an integral role in Fiorentina’s unprecedented fifth place finish in Serie A last season.
