# Conte convinced Rahman to leave on loan

Baba Rahman has revealed that Antonio Conte convinced him to leave Chelsea on loan – after the Italian claimed the Ghana international would spend most of his time on the bench in an honest chat with the full-back during pre-season.

Rahman has found it difficult to make an impact in Chelsea’s side, following his £14million move from Augsburg – making only 23 appearances last season.

In his interview with the [Bundesliga’s official website](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/noblmd4-schalke-abdul-rahman-baba-feels-back-home-in-the-bundesliga.jsp), the defender said:

> In pre-season, the new coach Antonio Conte told me ‘Baba, you’re a very good player, but we’re not playing in Europe this season and have no Champions League games so you’re not going to play too often.’

So following his chat with Conte, Rahman decided to accept a loan offer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke stating that.

> When Schalke’s offer came in, I was convinced that I had to take it. Schalke are a great club and the coach is counting on me. It couldn’t get any better.

Since the move though the German club’s fortunes have taken a turn for the worse – as they have begun the campaign with four straight losses. Baba has also spoken about his commitment to the German club during his season-long loan spell.

> I am only thinking about Schalke right now and I feel 100 percent a Schalke player. I cannot predict whether things will work out the way we imagine them, but I can promise that I will give everything – absolutely everything – for this club.

Rahman may well find it difficult to make it back into the current Chelsea side upon his return, with Conte having brought in Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina on deadline day.
