# Bonucci would be a brilliant fit for Chelsea says Ballack

Amidst reports that Roman Abramovich is prepared to fund a [£60million move](https://readchelsea.com/2016/10/06/abramovich-sanction-world-record-bid-bonucci/) for Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack believes the Italian would be a “brilliant signing” for the club.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has reportedly received the backing of Abramovich, who is prepared to break the world-record transfer fee for a defender to land the Italian.

Conte has previously worked alongside Bonucci with both Juventus and the Italian national side and failed with his attempts to sign the defender during the summer transfer window.

And Ballack, speaking on [talkSPORT’s ‘Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast’](https://talksport.com/football/listen-premier-league-winner-michael-ballack-says-leonardo-bonucci-would-be-brilliant?) show, believes if Bonucci is available then he would be a great acquisition for Conte and Chelsea.

> If it is possible to sign such a great player with good experience, it would be brilliant for Chelsea.

The former Germany international was another brilliant signing for the Blues when he joined the club in 2006, making over 160 appearances for the club during a four-year spell.

Ballack won the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup whilst at Chelsea, and believes it is a must for the Blues to return to winning ways and start challenging for trophies again after last season.

He continued:

> You see how much money other teams spend – everyone wants to win the league – and I know from the past how difficult it is to win the Premier League. Chelsea is a team which had a great time a few years ago and they’re looking for great success.
>
> The place they finished last year was not enough for them and they have different targets, but they have to deliver. There has to be a change with the new coach in terms of playing, the style of play and delivering results, so hopefully it’s a better season for them now.

Chelsea are currently seventh in the Premier League following Saturday afternoon’s 2-0 victory against Hull City and Tottenham’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday means just five points separate Chelsea in seventh and City, who are currently top of the league.
