# Conte “delighted” with United victory

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte revealed he was “delighted” with his side’s performance during their 4-0 drubbing over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with Conte’s new 3-4-3 formation for the third league game in a row, Chelsea romped home to a comfortable victory and kept a clean sheet for the third consecutive league game, making it three wins from three under Conte’s new system.

Pedro got the Blues off to a flying start, opening the scoring after just 30 seconds, the fastest goal in the Premier League so far this season.

Gary Cahill doubled the lead before half-time, thumping home a volley from six yards after being left unmarked at a corner.

Eden Hazard finished well to make it three in the second-half before N’Golo Kante rounded things off with a fine solo effort, scoring his first for the club and Chelsea’s ninth goal from their last three league outings.

And [Chelsea’s official website](https://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2016/10/conference-call-post-man-united-.html) revealed how happy Conte was with the result.

> I’m very delighted with the performance. Today we played very well with good intensity and with good possession. We moved the ball very quickly and created chances to score goals.
>
> Above all we didn’t concede a goal which is very important. The players deserve this performance and this win.

Chelsea needed a big result against a side challenging for a top-four spot, following back-to-back defeats to rivals Arsenal and Liverpool prior to the international break.

And Conte believes the win was vital to boost the confidence within the team and to bounce back from the aforementioned defeats.

> It was very important for our ambition. After defeats against two great teams, Liverpool and Arsenal, it was very important to have a good answer and win against a very strong team like Man United.
>
> We are working very hard, I see my players every day with the right commitment and work-rate. We too three points and we won against a strong team. This type of win usually increases your confidence. You trust your work more.

Pedro’s early opener was the perfect start for Chelsea and was another aspect of the Blues’ performance Conte enjoyed, after telling the players to make a strong start to the match.

> I asked my players to start very strong and show quickly our desire to win this game, not only our fans but above all our opponent. It happened because we scored after 30 seconds. The most important thing was that we continued to play and to try to score the second goal. It happened and I’m very happy.

Chelsea are now preparing to face West Ham in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening, and the Chelsea boss revealed the importance of moving on from the victory over United to focus on the Hammers.

> Now we must continue. Manchester United is the past for me. We must be concentrated on Wednesday. It’s important to recover the energy and to prepare for another difficult game.

The Blues are now fourth in the league, just one point behind joint-leaders Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

And Conte knows he and his side still have plenty of work to do in order to win the league this season.

> The most important victories in my career are when I won a title or a cup. You can win a battle, I prefer to win the war. It’s very difficult to talk about our position at the end of the season. We must continue to improve and then we’ll see, but I’m pleased because I am seeing the work during the game.
