# Mikel praises Roman Abramovich

John Obi Mikel believes Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich has taken the club “to the next level,” and has wished the multimillionaire a happy birthday on his Twitter page.

The Nigeria international is yet to feature for Chelsea in the Premier League this season but could be set to make an appearance for Chelsea in Wednesday evening’s EFL Cup tie with West Ham.

And despite Abramovich spending millions on new midfielders whilst Mikel is still available for Chelsea, the 29-year-old was still full of praise for the club’s owner.

Abramovich purchased Chelsea in 2003 and has since helped transform the club into one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, signing Mikel in 2006.

His investment’s into the club have received severe criticism in the past, but it could be argued that Abramovich was merely ahead of the game in sanctioning big-money transfers, due to the money involved in the modern game.

Chelsea have won multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups and League Cups with Abramovich as the owner, as well as a historic Champions League triumph in 2012.
